Hello everyone.
This implant was placed in Vietnam over 25+ years ago.
My client has no idea what it could be.
I separated the crown from implant and I’m lost.
I checked ’what implant is that?’ Website and it was no help,
Looks like one piece implant with no implant/ abutment interface.
Any ideas?

One more picture of radiograph.
It was one of maxillary centrals that failed.
Dr cut it off and sent me the implant.

It seems unlikely that you will identify something of that age and where it was restored. The interface looks a lot like a Neoss, but neoss was founded in 2000.

I see that you have the implant out at this point. Does the patient have more implants of the same kind and you are trying to figure out if you can replace those restorations without replacing the implants? Or are you just curious?

My client and I are wondering if it’s even possible to restore this tooth/ crown. Contemplating a splinted Cantilever anchored on to the other central (#8) implant (bad idea I think, since #9 failed).
The patient has same implants on upper and lower jaw.
The patient will need to have rest of the restorations redone eventually.

NobelDirect Groovy. Implant and “abutment” are machined as one entity
Thanks for your help.
Do you think it’s NobelDirect Groovy?
I have never seen one.

I have to say as well, I now realize I was looking at the top of the abutment and thinking of that as the "interface" oops.

Go to genieoss.com. Then NobelBiocare-Surgeon-Implant. Scroll down towards the end

Don’t feel bad. I spent an hour trying to find implant / abutment interface before realizing that it’s a one piece design.

Thank you for your reply.
I think Jo Chen nailed it. I drove over to my client and we both think it’s NobelDirect Groovy. My client has an inside contact with Nobel so he is going to double check with him.
In any case I’m going to check out your suggestion for Darwin as well.
Thank you.

Of course there’s an app for everything. Go to whatimplantisthis.com.

It’s ‘whatimplantisTHAT.com’.
Yeah, as I have stated above, that’s the first place I checked. Thanks anyway though.
It’s getting late. Time to go home.

I stand corrected. I had texted my prosthodontist friend and asked, telling him what I had checked and came up with nothing. He told me correct, perhaps I’m just too friggin tired tonight and should stop trying to be helpful as I’m just bumbling up everything. Good night. Hopefully the previous poster that suggested Groovy is correct. Cheers.

In a side note this has been one of the worse implant that ever got into the market, is was ment that the tiunite achive a mucointegration with the soft tissue, i never worked it greated a lot of bone lost

Van de Velde, T., Thevissen, E., Persson, G. R., Johansson, C., & De Bruyn, H. (2009). Two‐year outcome with Nobel Direct® implants: A retrospective radiographic and microbiologic study in 10 patients. Clinical implant dentistry and related research, 11(3),183-193.

Conclusion: Radiographic evidence and 25% implant failures are indications of a low success rate. High counts and prevalence of significant pathogens were found at surviving implants. Although extensive bone loss had occurred in the coronal part, the apical portion of the implant showed some bone to implant integration.
