Kerr Broken Arm Casting Maintenance

There is not a hole that feed oil into the case. It has to be cleaned and regreased the old fashioned way. Disassembly. Usually, the bottom bearing, and smaller of the two, is the one that gets messed up. It can be accessed from the bottom through the small plate. You should be able to remove the bearing and clean and regrease it. Or replace the bearing if it is too messed. But use bearing grease not oil.
Let me know what you find.

We change out the spring every other year I believe. Annually, we disassemble and clean the entire axle and lubricate with Dicronite, high temperature dry lube (good at over 1000F). As a previous poster stated, you do NOT oil one of these things.

During the annual inspection we also replace any other parts that are showing wear and tear. While it is a part of our normal GMP's, it is also an important part of our safety program.

OSHA just about blew an o-ring when they came for a visit and saw an open casting chamber spinning at in insane speed, loaded with molten metal.
