How are you going to control the shrinkage/magnification factor?

The Sirona CAM software is not open to accept that. (Unless you have Jedi powers)

Do the Black-market blocks have the correct shrinkage barcode on them already? Do you really believe someone actually took a sample and measured the correct value for each lot? Maybe small single units would be hard to tell, but it would be difficult to get a bridge to fit like that.

the reason i ask is there are a lot of sirona compatible blocks on the market and had presumed that as such there must be some that are working, if not they would have been pulled as products. does anyone have any experience

Metoxit has great blocks for Sirona, and they are more Vita than Vita, if you know what I mean. I used them when I had a Cerec here. Top quality CE marked, FDA approved and inexpensive.

I've tried a bunch and *** is right to say to be careful.
Having Jedi powers helps!! ;)

Metoxit
- Stupid sticker
- blocks that come off the mandarel
- Me no likey.

Vita
- $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
- Good block though
- Don't like the pre-coloured blocks (LL1 etc.)
- Also the dips suck!

A no name brand
- Green and white box
- STAY AWAY
- Tried a couple and they are GARBAGE
- Bridge no fit
- no really
- they are in the garbage

Origin
- Nice blocks
- No fit problems
- Bar code
- Good price

Sagemax
- Most have bar codes
- No fit problems
- Good price
- Also have High Translucency blocks (for full contour)
- Took a hammer to one yesterday and was still fine.:smash:
- That was FUN :D

Ivoclar
- $$$$$$$$$$$$
- Good block

Talladium
- Tried a couple a little while ago
- Not impressed with it
- Can't remember why though:confused:

Almost forgot- Sirona
- Does anybody buy blocks from Sirona???????

I would suggest milling 2 frameworks when you try a new brand. 1 with what you're used to and one new one. Compare and see.

What I find interesting is that several of the blocks you quoted are manufacturered by the same company, exactly the same way, only the label being changed, yet you gave them differing reviews.

Perhaps it's because your evaluation process only does two samples?

Let me rephrase.
I didn't just do 2 samples total.
I mean to do 2 of the same case.
Try several cases. Singles and esp. bridges before committing.

As far as manufacturing by the same company goes:
If you're talking about Metoxit and Vita I know it may sound strange.

Que sad violin :violin:

I was milling Vita only for the first while and then heard that Metoxit is basically Vita.
So I had to order some blocks and decided to get my whole order from Metoxit.
It seemed fine (other than those stupid stickers) and then I had a big bridge that broke twice with the Metoxit blocks, so I thought maybe its my burs. But first I tried milling a Vita. Well, to my surprise it milled just fine???

Then it happened a second and third time.
Then all kinds of blocks came off the mandrel.
I was pissed.

Never had this problem with Vita.

Same manufacturer???

Just sharing my experience.

BTW is there any others I've mentioned that is from the same manufacturer?
Would love to learn.

I've used Ivoclar, metoxit and crystal zirconia.

Not all metoxit blocks have stickers on them. I've received blocks with the code printed on them. I had a problem with block falling off the mandrel as well, but just once. But it was a bridge, so was quite a setback. We were promptly compensated for it, including dongle cost. Aside from that, the quality of the zirconia itself has been equal to or better than ivoclar. I specifically remember having a lot of problems with ivoclar blocks (not always the block's fault, but hard to say) but don't remember having so much problems with metoxit blocks.

So far, I haven't been very impressed by crystal zirconia. It's the cheapest, and it shows. I see quite a few blocks which are chipped at the edges, which points to poor quality or poor handling.

Sirona is coming out with a full contour block in May 2011. Bruxzir also has full contour blocks available. Right now, our lab uses Crystal Diamond blocks with our inLab Cerec machine for full contour. They are alright but there have been some cracking issues. I'm looking forward to Sironas blocks in May and their software update to avoid having to use the reduced function option.

We've used vita, origin, and crystal. Vita always worked fine. Origin had some issues reading the block itself (after scanning code) but all fits matched vita. We haven't had any problems with crystal except for poor customer sevice. We had quite a few crack during sintering and found out when they say be sure to dry completely they mean completely, haven't had any crack since. Full contour turns out nice.
