Another few ideas:

Read the IFU, don't just throw it away.

Store the material in a cabinet that's not on an outside wall or in the direct path of the heat/air vents.

And the one I always tell them when they ask what to use:
The material you are most comfortable with. Don't experiment on something you want done right.
