Or I should remove the cords before pouring. I worry about pulling the margin with the cord.

Any NOs to pouring with the cord.

Gently pull the cords with forceps. If you leave it, you'll wish you didn't.

We always let the impressions soak in disinfectant for awhile and then go after it with a BP blade under a microscope.

Cavicide. I tend to dip mine, and let them sit for 5-10 mn, then rinse them. That would soften up the retraction cord long enough to make it easier to cut/pull out, as doug suggested.

A good pair of fine pointed scissors is needed sometimes too. I've had a few that under magnification it was difficult to tell if the cord was on the margin and a few will leave a tail of it loose that passes through the margin. I was always more comfortable snipping the cord and not putting stress on the portion that remained to reduce the pull and movement on it.
