I am looking for something....

Can someone (everyone) please walk over to a running mill,

look on screen at bottom left side....

You will see either G54, or G55, or G?? right next to the tool being used...T6 or whatever.

I suspect everyone is running in a G55 work-offset? Right? I need to be sure of this for something.

Also, if possible, can you post the first Tens lines of a program? The actual G-code.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Scott
The G54 & G55 codes refer to the side of the puck in a 2-puck holder mill. G54 is the left side, and G55 is the right side. If there is only one puck holder, then the default is G54 (left).

Here is the starting info in a Yena NGC file:
O1000(Yenadent D40 5 axis LEFT AXYZB mm)
G90
G54
G27
M6 T1
G26
M3 S22000
M7 M64 P3
G0 Z90
G0 X-16.437 Y-33.177
G0 B0
G0 A0
(Op S:Rough Top 2 mm.toolpath.0, Tool:1, D2)
M3 S22000
G0 Z9
G0 Z7.6
F900
G1 Z6.4
F1800

Hope this helps,
b

Thank you sir!

But this is different info than a customer in Georgia who has only Single puck mills. (Two of them)

Their sample g-code is using G55 work offset with only a single disk holder.

So, I think we need a few more answers please.

Also, if we tried G54.....the Z is waaaay different! No way could their mill be set-up for G54 to be in a disk at all. Weird?

and now, we find another customer in California with Single disk holder in Two mills with G54, like you said Bob.

But there are Two mills at Pittman in GA with G55 and single disk holder. Weird! Dangerous to assume I guess?

Many mills cannot accept the Z 90 coordinates. They have to drop down to Z 85 for safe retraction position during flip or, One we found had to go to Z 80!

The Z-axis travel limits were exceeded!

I'm sooooo ready for the weekend!

Scott,
I have no clue. It looks like they are setting up mills differently.
Makes no sense.
What's your take on it?

Each mill may have encoder in different position, or different axis limits set.

Maybe has to do with Yenadent switching Spindle motors recently, and there could be different shape on top of spindle housing, or ?? that requires a different axis limit position? Z90 was the ticket for the mills originally, (Positive Z axis travel limit) but....now? Who knows?

Then, I guess the D40 and D30 can be in a couple different flavors.

Proceed with caution when playing around is my suggestion.

Luckly we did not have any crash this week playing with other labs mills by remote.

What a PITA, but all worked out now.

Thanks for your help Bob!!

Yes Tyler!

Maybe you have different spindles in the Two you have?

I hope so, and would be curious to see your header in the post program.

(My wife and I are still at work! 8:00 on Friday night. Been here since 6:00)

Your mill cannot use Z90 as safe retraction position I guess?

Needs to drop 1/2cm to G85.

I found One so far that needed a wee-bit lower even.

22,000rpm with a 2mm ball for Roughing huh? I go faster RPM and a little slower feed myself.

Seems to make tools last longer for me with less destruction. Smaller bite, but more frequent.

Thanks Tyler! John, I don't see any full names of patients.

All different retraction positions for flipping of part, or beginning of milling.

Weird as heck? Seems no real standard is in use here.

Thanks everyone!!
