The Roland needs a better fixture it sounds like....98mm. I didn't know it was a goofy 100mm.

I just spent almost $5000 on my fixture solution for the Haas. My first attempt.

A Disk fixture from Emuge in Germany is over $4000 plus a Fourteen week wait for production!! Crazy huh>?

I can't find any other "Dental" fixtures out there to buy? I made up my own system. It is going to have self-centering German mechanism to clamp onto anything and have it in center of rotary axis. Not a window style, just cantilevered.

We must not have the full version. There isn't curves at the top of the page.

SUM3D loads with a lot of the tools hidden so the interface is easy and less intimidating. I can't remember exactly how I turned everything on but it was something like configuration, view, tools.

Scott,

Thank you for posting the details on moving curves in SUM3D. Regarding the fixtures that come with the DWX-50 it supports the following stock sizes:
Disks with steps: 98-100mm x 12-26mm
Disks without steps: 98-100 10-14mm thick and 16-20mm thick.
Blocks: 38 x76mm in 16 or 22mm thickness

I look forward to seeing the fixtures you are creating. If you can't find what you want, you have the tools to make it yourself.

So why's Sevan up there talking about putting tape on his 98mm discs to get them to work?

Configuration Icon in SUM3d....(Yellow Wheel)

Interface settings have Five different levels of user-interface. Choose the highest and stand back!! (BOOM!) Just kidding.

You can add on-screen toolbars, like the one for curves if ya want?

We put a small piece of double sided tape on the fixture wall of the roland to keep the 98mm disks more centered and stable then with a 2mm space all the way around the puck, that's all it does. The 98mm disks will work without the tape but trying to keep them centered in the fixture while you tighten them down is the problem. Especially the disks with out steps. Even if you hold the disk with one hand and tighten the fixture down with another. There is no issue with the 98mm disk fitting at all, you need to improvise a work around that is best for you i guess. I mean i could have a shim milled out by a machine shop that is the ultimate fix but cost $$$$.$$ as to where the tape cost $.$$ LOL and it does the job perfectly. Once the disk is tighten down in the fixture that's all that matter. In all the hundreds of pucks I have cut and the machine has about 600+hours on it not a single issue of the puck moving during the milling process.

I will take a pic a post it tomorrow so you get a better understanding.

I have the user-interface at Maximum. Don't see where to add on-screen toolbars, and still no curves.

Here are the pics I promised. Once again the tape goes on the inside wall of the fixture a small 3/8" piece just to cover the inside wall only! No tape goes on the disk, that would be a waste of tape, I change the tape out once a month if that.

10mm disk manuall centerd in fixture.

How centered is the roland fix on the disk? Here the red line doesnt lie.

Now the good fix.

Four small pieces place in a cross pattern, just on the inside wall of the fixture, not covering the bottom shelf of the fixture so the disk seats all the way down.

Now I hope this clears up why people might be confused on why i use tape to get the 98mm to work in the DWX-50.

By all mean the Roland DWX-50 is a great milling unit, at over 600hours of run time the thing still cuts fast, clean and i pull an average of 115 unit on a set of non diamond coated burs from tilladium what else could you ask for?

All images taken with my iPhone 4, LOL and my Canon 5D MK II is at home, gotta love cell phone cameras now a days.

Sevan :D
