You should be fine with HIPAA. Obviously just be careful with leaving cases in the car with any identifiers visible. State regulations are another story. Which state are you in? Florida requires the lab script to stay on premises so I make a copy to bring home. I never bring home cases to...

Too much heat generated during finishing causing some warping? One guess. I had a few of those gaps and realized it was because I kept taking the wax-up off and on the master model during waxing to look at it from different angles. It was the wax I was warping.

Great topic. I find that the wax is what will make or break me...meaning, I have spent more time figuring out how fast it melts, how quickly it cool, how hard it gets after a number of melting and cooling... I will definitely try the Yates & Bird.
