Does anyone currently outsource their night guard design work? We mill in house but are having a hard time finding someone to design for us. Our Exo doesn't have the capability at this time to do them.

Thanks!

The splint module is pretty cheap. I would just get it and design yourself. Best way to get it done how you want.

Are you guys doing full arch or deprogrammer type?

The other side of it is our only designer, doesn't want to do them.

Whats a fair price to have someone design them for you?

We are now experimenting with the exocad design, the fit on the model is great, but frankly the designer doesn't know what to look for. We mill them in house but we don't know much about the design. Thickness? Flat occlusion? Should it lock to the opposing? Does anyone know where we can get training or online videos etc? General guide lines?

I design them at least 1mm thick on occlusion, completely flat so there is no interferences with patient movement. Occasionally we put ramps for lateral disclussion.
They need to be balanced so that one tooth is not heavier than the others. All of this depends on the bite class.
We don't make full arch only the front 6 and half of the first premolar.
If you google night guard design you will find lots of techniques and opinions. Ask your clients what they would like.

Great lakes ortho used to have some old school videos on youtube if I remember correctly. These were waxing videos but obviously the same principles apply to the digital world.

The most popular design for any occlusal guard is to be sent a bite registration at the desired opening mount to this bite wax so all teeth are in contact in centric with a flat plan stop. Have cuspid rise disclusion laterally and a protrusive ramp to disclude as well.

This is what we design in our milled guards

Doesn't it take forever to mill a nightguard? Isn't that a waste of milling time?

Yes, if you have other items to mill but we have several hours at night that they are not completely being utilized. Its not a popular product since we offer so many other brux guards for much less. The erkodent machine/material is a much better option for profit.
