I know it's an old thread but anyway, here is the correct answer:

I add this answer because I found that thread while searching for information for my new dental works. I think that lots of people, like me, found that and are happy to learn more.

Gold 81.6%
Platinum 16.0%
Zinc 1.4%
Indium 0.5%
Iridium 0.1%
Niobium 0.4%

I know that because that information says my dentist bill and I found that information also on the internet.

I would say, based on that information, a gold crown is worth between $50 and $100. My dad had a very big crown, my crowns are smaller.

Regards, Richard from Texas
That's a high gold content, I feel sorry for the tech who had to do that one.

What do you think about palladium-compositions like that:

palladium: approx. 75%
silver: approx. 30%
tin: 6%
zinc: 2%
indium: approx. 5%

No real benefit, sure it would be considered a precious/high noble crown because of the high palladium percentage. However, it will be silver (what we call white gold) in color. Also, I'd have to look up palladium prices, but the last time I checked they were pretty similar in price, so no real savings.

The prices were pretty similar, really?

I got a booklet too, showing:

gold: approx. 2%
palladium: approx. 27%
silver: approx. 58%
cooper: approx. 10%
zinc: approx 1.5%

But that is a composition of very low quality, isn't it? And how is it used for?

That's not a gold crown.

concerning circuit board:

Why are they selling such bad quality? Is it for export?

I don't have the information here but I found another source, calculating palladium based dental gold:

70% palladium
32% silver

That's not dental gold for me. What is it used for besides circuit boards.

They calculate the price that way:

Sell for: $43.77
Calculation: $43.36 + 0.41

My questions is also: where do you sell your precious metal scrap? I was talking to 3 manufacturer and not one was willing to buy the scrap back?!
AND: do you buy and sell with the same company?

I found a couple of companies buying that scrap but all are "just" gold buyers. Is there no specialized buyer?

If you have tips for me: close to Waco in Texas would be perfect
