ok dear friends, I am trying to import scan data from sirona inlab 4.02 to my exocad in order to design my framework there...now we're is the problem: I managed to import the file to exocad by there the case goes wrong...I had problem defining the margin lines since it seems that the "preparation scans" was not made properly, in inlab I could design everything normally. but for my reasons I want to design in exocad...I can provide some photos tomorrow so you may see the problem..but so far has any of you tried to do this? any solutions on the matter? ?

what exactly you see in exocad after importing?
1- same quality model as seen in inlab but you cannot design on it
2- worse quality model than seen in inlab
3- a model that have nothing to do with dental models

same quality model as I seen in inlab, without the realistic colors of cource, I cam design but something seems to go wrong, for example when I define the margins for a bridge, for the one preparation the scan seems to be the whole upper-lower jaw l..and for the other, a part of the tooth and something from the upper jaw, I will upload some photos in a couple of hours to explain, either way I can design. just the scan data seems messed up

Ok I managed to fix this....I made the framwork although I havent found any way to seperate upper from lower jaw, seems the scan is one for both:

So this creates the following problem: you cannot fit the pontics to gingiva: (photo)

So we have to find a way to seperate the scans...Before I begin I defined the job as seen in inlab:

i have not use inlab since a year now i think there is an option to export each file alone,,, however if it is not possible try this if you like i am not sure if it will work with you.

go to this site: http://www.3d-tool-usa.com/overview.html

download the trial version (not the free viewer )
install and apply for a trial key
activate your software
it will last for 14 days
open it
import the inlab scan file as stl file
if successful
look to the right side of the screen
you will find parts
if you have there more than one part, that would be good news
look at the top toolbar
choose explode
explode parts
if successful
delete one part
and save the other as stl file
then re import and save the other part
you would now have two files
one for the preparation and the other for opposite
import to exocad as two scans and design.

best wishes

Thank you very much for that info, so you propose to use that software in order to create the three basic scans for exocad? (upper jaw-lower jaw-Vestibular scan) I will try and if I come with results I will let you all know

you have holes in the antagonist jaw at that point exocad cant find the antagonists and goes threw thats why you get the artefact's close the holes either with exocad the medit scan software or any other program with that function.

open each file with 3d and save it again as a different file then import the new saved file to exocad

one good thought is to open the lower model with 3d
look to the parts on the right side
if you find more than one part
check those extra part
delete unnecessary parts
save
import to exocad

one more solution is to cut the upper model and keep only the occlusal of the teeth.

mohammad if youve used this tool i have some questions; 1. how long is the free trial in reality? is it like winrar where the free trial lasts forever with basic functionality?

if not, what level of performance is needed for the import/export you are talking about? Basic/advanced/premium?

You could use the advanced feature to close the holes, that way you can keep your data instead of trimming and losing valuable info in the opposing. Also, it looks like you are ok in regards to the axis, but when you first import the software will ask where to set it. Make sure you're looking at the prep from the right direction. I think you did this part ok, just sayin.
