Granted that the protective lenses for stereomicroscope get ruined in a short time, there are cheaper alternatives to replace them?
Example: use a special glass (cut in the right shape from a professional) ??
Someone has experience on this?

Buy a transparent sheets for a presentation projector(they have 0 optical effect) cut it the shape and the size to fit the frame of your stereo-microscope (its very thin and very easy to cut and use) install it before the protective lens ,,,,your fame will take it along with the original lens with no problem(its very thin),and replace it whenever you need.
very cheap practical and effective solution.
the only problem you might face is when you cut plastic or acrylic near to it, the plastic filings may attracted to it but cleaning them should not be an issue.

I bought some clear acrylic discs on eBay. I think I paid $5 for 50. I popped the old glass lens out of the old bracket and glues in the acrylic. They last a few months but at that price, who cares! They sell them in many diameters.

because, when you use the handpiece, can leave splinters that affect the crystal .Indeed on the protective glass that I have now, passing my finger on ,I feel the roughness
