Hi All

What is the minimum thickness i can take an anterior emax in the palatal contact area so as not to compromise the strength of the emax . I plan to make it full contour palatally but need to know what is safe ?. Thanks

Ivoclar has a emax press pdf file of the instructions on their web site.
Check it out. Tried posting the link, but not happening from my tablet.

I haven't read the instructions in a while, but I'm pretty sure it's recommended to keep the thickness at 1mm where the bite is.

per the press manual 2009:

http://www.ivoclarvivadent.us/zoolu-website/media/document/1265/IPS e-max Press
see pgs 12.....

Anteriors 1.0mm gingival; 1.2mm lingual; 1.5mm incisal. Posteriors 1.5mm occlusal. Veneers 0.7 incisal, 0.6mm labial, 0.6mm gingival.

Now the real question is what everyone is actually getting to work with. I suspect something less than the manual's ideal. LOL

Yes, I rarely have anything over 1mm on the lingual and many are 0.7ish. With less than 1mm, I suggest an alternative material, my suggestion is rarely followed, however I can't think of any that have failed.

Extraordinarily few failures for violating the minimums. No, we rarely get the required space, however, once properly bonded, even the thin edges seem to polish out without chipping. But consider that if you randomly pick up a model and measure the thickness of the pre-prep anterior tooth b-l at the middle, you only get something like 3.5mm-4mm before prepping. Can't blame the docs.
We also recommend an alternative if we question the space.
