Hey guys I am possibly looking at another miller, I currently have two Origin Milling Machines from B&D, now they are great machines and are a work horse but I am interested in the DWX50!

How does it run, is the spindle solid? Anyone had any problems out of it? Also what is the price on this bad boy?

If you're buying just the machine without CAM software, then it'll run you around $30,000. We got ours from Sagemax in Seattle WA. We needed software so it was an extra $6,000, plus we got a suction unit. We have had it since Jan and haven't had any problems. I've left the spindel setting the same since instalation and I get FCZ mills around 20 min. Wax in about 8-10 min. We get all our Zr through Sagemax, at a very competable price; based on our volume. If you're looking for burs too then check out Zro2.net. They sell some really great burs. Get around 130-160 mills per bur. Our last burs we used where through Sagemax and they told us they get around 25-30 mills before they need changing. Now I'm getting 4-5 times the usage without chipping for the same price bur.

Shane, I met Zro2 at LMT East and their burrs looked pretty good. It is nice to get some end user feedback on the lifespan. I ran the numbers (yes it's me, the numbers guy):

$139/130 pieces = $1.06 per piece vs. $67/25= $2.68 per piece (compared a diamond coated burr to a standard un-coated burr with a 4mm shank 1mm tip)

You pay more up front for the diamond coated tools but there is a dramatic savings per part vs. standard un-coated tools. $1.62 savings per part at 400 pieces/month puts an extra $648 in your pocket every month. Well done sir.

Thanks Glenn. Glad I could help out. It's actually lower than that. Micheal at Zro2 gave us half off on our last order. I ordered 6 2mm, and 6 1mm all at $70 each!! Not sure if you know David Grimes at One Source Dental, but in Chicago at LMT he said he's getting his burs for $50 and getting 250-300 mills per bur.

$70 bucks each for diamond coated tools? You found gold in Germany! By the way, I really like the way Micheal packages the tools: felt pouches with a cast edelweiss pin. Sehr Bayerischen!.
I do know David at One Source. Is he getting the same tools for $50 each or another brand? Either way, with more than 100 units per tool diamond coated looks like the only way to go.

I get my tools at this price

The Roland bur sizes are as follows:

#1 size .0150 sells for $46.74
#2 size 2mm sells for $38.47
#3 size 1mm sells for $38.47
#4 size .6mm sells for $41.95
#5 size .0312 sells for $34.91

i used tool holder #5 for my occlusal.
this is my setup 2mm for rough, 1mm for finish and only for occlusal the .0150, I setup my personal milling strategy for my cam i get 9-12 min for full fcz and 5-8 on wax, the closer the part to the disk size less time milling, accommodate high parts on a smaller disk to save material also tools last longer depending in the zir material full fcz is softer compared to high strength zir for frame and copings reducing the life of the tool.
Here are some pictures of milling time, this 12 units full zir bridge was mill in 1:49= 109 min that is 9.08 min for units and i used 3+2+1 strategy, the part was 19.8 and tilted to fit a 98.5 X 16mm puck to a final size of 15.3 without tilting the bridge the time of mill will be about 1-2 min less by crown. 20120411_162945.jpg 20120411_165351.jpg 20120411_174441.jpg 20120411_185927.jpg 20120412_091930.jpg

Sorry for the pic this cam soft is in German but a have to say is the most complete cam soft i have used and i used secoi work NC,Delcam Dent mill,
PicaSoft - Mayka dental,SUM 3D. This cam soft is a mirror of the cam used by the ZENOTEC T1 by Wieland with the postprocesor for the DWX-50.

Hi Shane i don't estimated my tools life by the amount of milled crowns but for hours, i have set my cam soft to alert me if one of the tools go over 75 hours of milling time, so I don't get chips on my zir. Here is the website and Happy milling
Dental Zirconia Generic Milling Blocks Discs for CAD/CAM - Burs and Handpieces

I measure tool life in linear units. After so many meters of cutting, the CAM tells mill to change tools. SUM3d does this automatically. No human alert system needed. I go home and sleep.
