Question: My mother had all of her teeth removed so that she may wear dentures. While waiting for her teeth to be removed, she complained of pain saying on a daily bases that there was still pieces of the tooth left in the gum. Therefore, she pick at her gum area causing awful infections and treated several t . . .
Answer: Your mother should be checked by a dentist or prosthodontist (denture specialist) to see if there truly are issues with her healing. However, causing infections by picking at your body is not an appropriate behavior regardless of where healing is taking place and may need to be addressed by a b . . .

Forget the prosthodontist, I'd send my mom to an Oral surgeon to have the root tips and or bone fragments removed........what a weird post/question, to think, Doctors have to deal with this on a daily basis......somedays I love being a lab tech...lol

She didn't say who pulled her teeth. I could only imagine what the dentures look like if he did such a bad job on the extractions.

Well I would imagine that it was an immediate denture... and rarely do I here that they look good.

I always recommend a patient go with a temporary denture instead of immediate dentures.
Generally there is a lot more room to do your setup after the patient has healed for 6 - 9 months.
I explain to the patient that during this healing time after the extractions that there will be a great deal of change to the residual ridges and that by going with a temporary first they will have a better looking and fitting denture when the replacement is made ... plus they keep the temp as an emergency denture....
Also during this healing time of 6 - 9 months I provide aftercare which includes adjustments and temporary liners to help maintain fit and comfort.
