Default More about Crozat appliances

Does anyone have some reading on Crozat appliances.
I was thinking of adding IPC instead of lingual U loops to expand upper or lower arch.

A "Practical Guide to Orthodontic Appliances" book put out by Great Lakes has a descent description, history and construction photos.

Cool idea!
My I suggest to design it with stops so the components cant separate.
I have seen some lectures featuring the Series 2000 and the appliances separated....where did the coil spring go? I wonder how easy it is to pass sharp ended coil spring??????

regards,
Don

In addition to the GL book "Practical Guide to Orthodontic Appliances" there is another great reference book for ortho called o-atlas. You can order it through dentaurum

Trisha:
I do have a copy of O atlas, there's even a whole chapter on crozat construction online:
o-atlas - Chapter 6 -

Don:
I didn't understand any of what you're trying to say.
Can you explain about component separating?

Sure...
If you look at the last step of fabrication of the Distalizer Video you will see we solder the terminal end of the IPC so that the IPC cant separate from the tube, there is no way the coil spring can "fall off" of the appliance. So many piston like appliances allow the coil to escape from the appliance and I worry that with the sharp ends of the Niti (if swallowed) they would be hard if not impossible to pass.

I can email you photos if what I am saying is not clear, I would post them but I am not too good at it yet.

regards,
Don

I understand
Leone's FastBack screw has a solution for this. There is a screw-on cap on the terminal end.

I presume it is very expensive for you to ad this feature to IPC design.
But then if you added this solution there wouldn't be a need for IPC, you could just change the lenght of NiTi spring.

Passing a coil spring??? Now THERE is a fun subject!!
I suppose it wouldn't be called a "clinger" then would it.
Guess you would have to call it a "springer".
Can you imagine....ripping the paper and the snap back force!!!
Eye opener in the morning!!!
Or.... it could get tangled in your shorts...imagine the possibilities!!!

THANKS MIKE !!!
That book will be so much help. The guy that did Crozat construction in my lab is retired for 5 years now and doctors stoped using them.
You have my address on PM.
