Very cool, for awhile there I was looking for a dinosaur retainer, then I reread your post and saw the t-rex appliance. Duh!
My Doctors call that a Pendex ( Pendulum w/ expander) it threw me off.

I bet the soccer ball with pink is very popular.

The T-Rex is a modified Pendulum. The molar bands are locked to the acrylic by 2 small wires. After expansion, The wires are cut allowing the posterior movement of molars.
Kind of like the Pendulum being modified with the expansion screw.
Go to AOA.com and take a look at their appliances. You can print out pictures of several various appliances there.
