Default toothacts

Sorry; In my introductory post I 'm affraid I did not include my name.
JEmirzian brought to my attention; "What's your name Toothacts?"
I was so glad to find this forum that I signed up and just started writing.

My name is Alan Aksomitas, toothacts will probably do just fine. I am a solo dental tech./ceramist, graduated from dental tech school in Forida 1979, opened my lab Dental Contours in Austin Texas 1980 about 30 years ago, then moved back to Fl in 1995 where I am now.
Started much like JEmirzian, (only Jay's lab looks much nicer), great job!

I am happy to see this forum up and running for the exchange of ideas, and a learning center for everyone. Looking forward to posting my questions as well as adding my two cents in for anyone looking for answers, If I can be of any help I will share it with you all.

By the way great site Travis ! question; what are these "furl post" dealys on the bottom of the post windows ? I am not a computer geek just a dental technician .

Thanks, Alan

This helps with Search Engine Optimization. It gives people the option to tell other sites that this is a good thread or post. I might turn it off, I dont think people would ever use it.

Default HI

You have been in business for a long time, where there any bad yrs of slow work that you thought you would have to shut down or was it pretty steady?

Dear, AmyLouRDH;

Yea Amy I started my lab in Austin TX 1980. Aquired a few accounts and lost a few accounts over time. Since I am a solo lab owner, it doesn't take many accounts to keep me busy, however when I loose a client sometimes its devastating. I have had great years and some horrific years where I thought I was going to loose it all. When you loose an account for whatever reason you can really get bumbed but you can't let it consume you, you have to get up and get out and knock on the doc's doors and keep on keepen on until that lost account is replaced. I have had times when I did not even have one case in the lab, what a beautiful thing ! but its no that pretty.

I have moved back to Fl about 10 years ago, in that time I found myself starting all over again, it was a stuggle the first year and slowly improved the following years. As of late I have been doing quite well untill recently with the downturn in the housing market here people are having a hard time paying for their homes much less going out having their teeth done. Right now I am in the same boat as Travis, after reading his post, he's looking for an account and so am I. I hate the rejection from the ladies at the guard gate. Won't let you through to talk to the doc.

It is devestating! I take it so personally, but intellectually realize it is just business. You do have to not let it consume you, It usually takes me a good month or so. I dread calling on new accounts because I am by far not a natural sales person. I go at the angle that I am trying to make a living and I am not looking to grow into a big lab, but that I will personally be handling things from start to finish.

I hope you find a new doctor soon. Don't let the front desk discourage you. Don't stop till you at least get to talk with the doctor yourself.
