For those who might be interested, I'm a general dentist who has also worked in a dental lab. I was the "Implant Coordinator," interfacing w/ the doctors who sent work to the lab, esp. implant treatment. I did this for about 4 months. It was fascinating being on your end of things.
I have to apologize for the "dreck" that I've seen sent by doctors who expected good lab work in return. It changed my mind on what I send out! I would have loved to charge docs a surcharge for the extra time it took to handle their work; e.g. effort to set bites on poor occlusions/impressions, find margins to ditch correctly, etc. So, I look forward to "meeting" you. |

Hi Steve,
Thanks for joining and Thanks for your words......It's nice to see your view on dentistry. It would be great if we all could join the clinical side of dentistry with the laboratory side. Sometimes it seems to be worlds apart. I keep saying this, but I am very glad Travis put this web site together so we all can learn from each other. Jay |

Welcome Dr. Steve~ We are glad you are here!
Like labdude I too am from the lower end dental tech. I'm an ortho lab owner. I have a couple of accounts that I would love to go in and demo a pour up, but they don't seem that interested. Quote:

Hey, Everyone. Thank you for acknowledging my visit. I've done some teaching in the past, may go back to teaching or doing CE courses. You can believe I am anxious to share my insights on the clinical/lab connection. As a student, I thought the school was being overly fussy, insisting on full mouth impressions for even single crowns. I still see "triple trays" as having a place in practice, but now I see it really depends on the rest of the occlusion, etc. I'm doing a lot more full arch impressions, now that I see what a lab has to do to get a good product. If we all help each other...!
Thanks again, good folks. |

Welcome Dr. Steve;
Glad you are here! Your in-site and contributions to this forum will be greatly appreciated by all of us. I concur with Jay, the communication between the clinical side and technical side of things makes it a whole lot clearer for us to understand what we all are doing. Its why I joined the forum to learn from the experience of others and from time to time throw my ideas out there, that may stand corrected. Kudos to Travis for putting this all together. Alan.
