I have already said hello to everyone, but wanted to post some pictures of the lab my wife and I spent 10 months building. Subfloor, framing, electrical, drywall, painting, each bench was custom built by us and the counters were cut and installed all with just our four hands. It was hard to readjust to making teeth after being contractors for that long!! We built and installed everything in our horse barn. The barn was built in 1849.

Hi,
I am wondering what kind of steamer that is you have. Very nice looking lab. People may want to hire you to do thier labs. Enjoy your new place.

Hi Mary,
I'll tell you building the lab was a test of our marriage....LOL. I can remember framing in a 90+ degree day with Katrina (my wife). It was NOT fun!! As for the steamer. I looked high and low to find just the right one. We finally settled on the company CD Nelson. It is a small company in IL owned by a husband and wife. I believe her name is Agnus. She was such a pleasure to do business with....VERY personable. They have a few different models to choose from. Without going into great detail I can tell you the Steamshine steamers are some of the best values in the market! Check out the link below and don't hesitate to call her. She is very knowledgeable and easy to talk with. CD Nelson Cleaning Solutions Take care, Jay |

Travis,
We have been making teeth for about 4 months now. There was one more picture I didn't include of the waxing and ceramic cutback stations. Katrina and I are the dorks in the picture!!! Jay Last edited by JEmirzian : 10-17-2007 at 02:54 PM. |

Are you a full service lab and do you specialize in anything particular?

Jay,
I don't think you will have a problem finding your niche if you put the same effort into your crowns as you did building your lab. Your lab looks very nice. Labs look so much better when they are clean like yours. Now I need to go and clean mine....I am so embarrassed after looking at your pictures.

Thanks.....Yes the counters are a solid surface epoxy/stone. It's a material called Meganite. Identical to Corian but without the price tag. We have 170 sq/ft of counter space and it was VERY hard to install. See pictures!!

Hi,
I actually purchased it from a distributor in my area that I have an account with. They were getting rid of the last of what they had so I scooped it up. I needed one more sheet to finish the job and found out they didn't have any more. So i went to Meganite's web site and found another distributor. Although I really didn't have a wholesale account with them, a place in NJ sold it to me at an ever cheaper price.....I think it was just under $16 a square. I listed the web site below.....you might want to find a distributor in your area and buy direct. It would save you some $$$$. Buy direct from the distributer......NOT THE DEALER. Are you planing on installing yourself? If so I can help you with any questions. MEGANITE is an acrylic solid surface material that is used for countertops and other surfacing applications. Aetna Plywood, the leading distributor of wood and laminate products in the Midwest, has added a new solid surface product to its line-up, c Jay Last edited by JEmirzian : 09-09-2008 at 11:21 PM. |

Jay.
well yes , my friend is a carpenter and he will be doing it ,he never work with meganite though,,I will be helping him on the istalation , and thank you for offering to help with the technical questions. I will sure take you up on it. hopefully they will start doing the finishout on the building in the next 2 weeks, but its going to take me about 6 month to finish since I do not want to borrow money ,I will be doing it month by month. the most expensice part is the electrician,,oh my ...I should of been an electrician,LOL. Im going with metal cabinets, found a source here in the USA and will be be getting prices tomorrow and also found one source in monterrey mexico. Jay, can you show the layout of the lab.? thanks again |
