Cyno and brian, I guess I am just a dumb ass that needs a system to do "good" work.
I am primarily a C&B lab. Hey, I didn't mean to insinuate that your a dumb ass.. Your the one calling yourself a C&B guy.(that was joke)..... I will admit up front that I bought into Ivocap for 2 reasons.... 1) I'm a one man band and I like the automation.. Or you can say lazy.. 2) Marketability... My work speaks for itself and when I tell the Doctor that this case was processed by means of continues injection that intrigues them more ... Like the cherry on top.. Good luck with the Stuab... |

the C&B vs. Removable thing is funny. Trust me I love both ends and do both ends every day. I invested in the Kulzer palajet system, just liked it better than the others. As far as marketing, your work does do alot of talking for you. Unfortunately, you can't rely only on that, I mean most of your major labs across America (wont mention names) just do average work. In the same case most people that are one man shows do very high end work. I could make only $400 crowns all day but Its going to be very hard to keep the 17 employees we have here. If your a one or two man show, then yeah your work does enough talking, but not as much overhead there.
back to the subject, I'm picking up my first Staub case today. I'll keep you guys posted on progress with it. But heres a good point I've know this DR all my life, my Granddad used to do some work for him. He has never even tried my removable work b/c he don't want to pay what I charge. So, I say okay Doc I have this system and we can do these dentures in 3 visits instead of 5 as you currently are.....those 2 chair time visits should more than justify what I charge for a denture. So if I get this guys work b/c of Staub, then, hey its paid for itself..... |

The original appeared in the Journal of Dentistry in 2005 vol 33 issue8. it was a fairly good sizes study ( around 150ish). As far as I can tell the patients only got the one set, they were followed up with QALs and blinded prothodontists were used to evaluate the relative quality of the dentures. The result was that within the statistics, no real variation was found which led the researchers to query whether simplified means should be taught in schools to enhance availability of treatment. Beyond that I don't have more... |

I'm curious about this Staub technology, as an eejit when it comes to removables I'm interested if this would be something a one man or two man lab should even look into? I have to do something, removable technicians are a dying breed and the business seems to be really really really be growing. When I first started my lab over a year ago on my own, I did maybe 2 dentures a month, hardly worth the time, but it was a great distraction and wasn't profitable at all. However, as I hinted too, I enjoyed it, it was different and something I found a liking too. Now fast forward, I average over 25-30 dentures a month. I do everything but process them, soon I'll make that leap and buy the boil out tanks and presses and such to do so but lately, it's been very profitable. I will say, I don't use cheap teeth........mostly Enigma all the way, and a couple IPN portraits every once in awhile. Have yet to have any fall outs or chips (not sure if thats good or bad or even expected) but really looking forward to enhancing my skills in this area. Looking into Rob Kreyer's day class (nice write up in dental lab products btw) and attending some of TomZ's lectures this year. We'll see, I'm still skittish when it comes to removables, but overall, I've seen some incredible transformations over the past year clinically with my own hands and removables.
Last week we (a Dentist and myself) did a 24 year old male, UCD LRPD and he actually shed a tear with joy he was so happy. He had horrible teeth, posteriors got ripped out years ago, pretty sad, some genitive disorder, but when the finals were placed after processing.......He said, "I feel comfortable trying to date someone".....that is something great right there and well worth it. Yeah Billy, I thought we were going to do a comparative thing together.
What happened? I'm still interested.

You know Timmy, I have decided that I will give technical help on a subject here if I have something that can be of value to another technician.. But I do believe I will stop answering or giving anything in detail over @ Dental Frown.. Over there most want it for the lowest price.. Why should I give something way that I had to work hard to get? Actually why should any technician want to give something away to a doctor that they have no relationship with and most likely never will? I don't mind giving out a sliver.. But actually help them make money without anything in return? |

Brian,
I can totally see where you are coming from........totally. Those clowns in that Cerec forum, a.k.a Scottsdale thugs, are such a bunch a pansies. Including the moderator who always has their back. None of them would ever have the balls to say any of the crap to your face, but on that forum, they get away with it? Bunch of BS if you ask me. |

)Ken, you crack me up. The phone book.....lol I haven't even found myself in the phone book yet. I'm starting to think it's a bunch of looney liberals over there making my phone book, then they get to "Patriot Dental Lab" and delete me out of it every time. I guess you're saying it's a blessing in disguise....who knew...lol |

In my experience the only docs who'd call me out of the yellow pages are bottom feeders that have burned every other bridge- that and the sad attempts to entice me to bushwack (i.e., the denture wearers) and act SHOCKED when I tell them I'd prefer not to go to prison. If you can't be found in the book you're a lucky man.... |

Some of you are a part of my monthly newsletter list (Staub Times ) where I mentioned our participation in Chicago. In case you don't know, we will be speaking and presenting along with the Barnes group on the 25th and 26th. I don't know exactly what block of time we will be speaking, but the meeting goes from 7:30am to 4:00pm both days. The owner of Select Dental Supply (our distribution company) and technical expert on the Staub Cranial System, Mark Seiter CDT will be our speaker. The meeting is pretty expensive, but the speakers are going to be quite impressive. In case you would like to check it out- a link with more information is below. You will find the complete agenda, subjects, speakers and their bios at: CFS and Associates - Home You do not need to be a member of The Barnes Group to be in on the technology that will be presented at the meeting. If you have questions regarding this meeting please contact us at 800-252-6279. |
