There is a new Dental Lab magazine out there. I just received a copy of a new magazine called "Options" Has some great articles in it and is free to dental labs.

Al,
Yeah, I'm not sure who came up with that. The articles are great; I got alot out of the premium denture one. The marketing was good also; alot of the ideas we have here but there were a few new ones. I get LMT but they have kinda gotten away from technique articles.

Took me a while to check out this post. Thanks for the good word. I love the tech articles. I just signed up today. I am now waiting to see if the publisher deems me worthy!
What other tech journals do you like? Which ones give the best bang for the buck? (I too don't need any Cad/cam stuff at this time, although the world IS heading in this direction. Just like digital x-rays, we'll be looking at more digital lab work) |

Cad Cam is not going away, does that mean you have to jump in with both feet? I don't think its mandatory "NOW" but I do think that it is the future. I believe that there will be a time that the production cost vs lab tech labor will even out and the machine will make you more money than the techs. I am always looking for ways to keep production increasing but maintaining indirect/direct labor at a set percentage. Its been exceedingly easier as I implement more modern equipment into my lab. I for one love the CAD CAM features in LMT and other publications. These articles allow me to stay current as to what is available now and what is on the horizon. Investing in a piece of equipment that is generally equal to 2 of my techs yearly salary is a daunting task and the more information on ROI and costs associated with such products is a god sent. I sincerely hope that they continue as I believe I am not in the minority on this topic. |

John, Im hoping cad cam goes the route that flat screen TV's have gone. I remember when they first came out, they were very expensive and only a few would invest in one. Now Walmart has whole walls dedicated to large flat screen TVs at affordable prices.
Im also starting to see some outsource copings in the low $50 dollar price range with a 3 day in lab turnaround time. i dont know what that is about mabey they use inexpensive blanks? If we ever get the lab industries version of the UAW driving labor costs up along with outsourcing over seas driving prices down, I invision alot of automation in our future. Right now I see the cost of a zirconia crn keeping the demand in check. But watch out!!! If they get all the tweeks out of the digital impressions and make it affordable for Dentists, that will become manditory. I hope Im retired before a dentist can "replicate" a crn in the office like they did on the Enterprise, in Star Trek.

![]() Truth is when it all goes digital and we work with virtual only models, thats when knowing the computer will come in real handy. 3m will be virtually milling the tops to there Lava cores this next year and the COS is the slickest way to take a digital impression today. When the largest impression material distributor/manufacture gets on board and offers a premiere digital solution to a standard impression utilizing impression material it should open everyones eyes as to what is coming. |
