Default How to do Porcelain?

Hey all,

Im 26 and have been in the dental lab business for 7 years now. I have done a lot of model work, waxing, metal finishing and feel that I am ready to learn porcelain.

I am wanting to open my own lab in the future, but obviously I have to learn the porcelain aspect of the business in order to do so. Can anyone give me any helpful references to learn? I am kind of a perfectionist when it comes to the anatomy on gold crowns....I use microscopes on all my margins and anatomy (to ensure smoothness).....please give all the advice you can.

Nick

Hi Nick,
It seems if your waxing gold crowns you should have a grasp on anatomy. That said you just need to learn how to manipulate the porcelain. By that I mean color and stacking. The majority of what you need is experience. Are you working in a lab now?

The best way is always to get your hands dirty.....just as you did your first wax-up, get jiggy with it. To enhance your knowledge however, go see what other porcelain techs are doing first hand. Many good porcelain wizards all have their own technique, if you're smart you will learn something from everyone...hope that helps

If you have a general understanding of the anatomy then just jump into it.

I guess that is what everyone before me said. doh
