I was just thinking I know some dental offices outsource their crowns to china w/ all the stuff going w/ lead paint in the toys and what-not is it really safe????

Anyone getting work done from there dentist should know everything from were it was made to the metarials that were used. Alot of people dont think to ask this, most people think their dentist make their restoration.

Hi Amy,
I have a friend in Florida that is on the NADL Board. He and his colleagues have been trying to expose the over seas market for just your concerns. One of the things they are working on is making it mandatory for the dentist to disclose to the patient where their crown is made. When I learn more I will be sure and post it here.

The office I work in uses a lab in China. Most of the staff has a problem with it. We hope that the patients start to ask where there crowns came from. A few of us are in the process of sending a crown or two out to be tested for lead. I will let you all know.

I am a Chinese and I work in Make-up dental lab in Fuzhou, China. I once worked for the largest dental lab in the world for two years. As I know, most professional dental labs in China (such as Our lab and Modern lab)use the materials supplied by the famous corporations, such as Vita, Dentsply, Bego and Ivoclar Vivadent and etc. These Chinese dental labs use the most advanced technology to service for dentists in the world. But why you Americans always censure China Labs? I can assure our products are much better than dental products of Most American Domestic dental labs. Generally, American Domestic dental labs only have several professional technicians and they only make several kinds of dental prostheses. But we have over two hundreds technician, and our lab can provide a wide range of dental prostheses. That's why more and more American dental labs want to outsource from China. Superior quality and competitive price determines that. Of course, some dental products produced by Chinese dental labs are inferior. Because that kinds of labs are very small and some American labs asked them to sell the products at a lowest price with a narrow margin of profit or without profit, so they have to use the cheap and fake materials. If they use the medium-size or large dental labs in China, I am sure all American dentists will welcome China dental lab.

Maybe your lab is using quality materials and maybe your using the most advanced technology and maybe your 200 technician colleagues are able to push out a wide range of dental prostheses. But there are many labs if not MOST that don't use quality materials......why, because they are not regulated and they don't have to be. Does your lab have MSDS sheets on every material used to make your products? Could you give them to your clients if they requested them? But it's not just dental restorations that your country doesn’t regulate.....its everything. That will catch up to you in the future. The reason your country is so cheap with their prices is because of a few things.....One as an industrial country, do you care what happens to your environment? Again no regulations. Two How much do you and your colleagues make an hour in USD? And I'm also asking what others not just in the dental field make...what is your minimum wage? If you have one. And how is the quality of your life? It seems the only thing your country is regulating over there is your own people.....do you even see that? Another example……If you were to take a vacation out of your country would it cost you more then 6 months salary? That said, how can a lab with 200 technicians and no regulations make “superior” restorations? Maybe your lab is good, but please don’t label as superior…….You don’t even know what we’re capable of over here because your country never has outsourced to us for anything. So please don’t make statements you can’t back up with out proper information. I also want to point out that it is not just China that is competing in the over seas market, their are labs in Vietnam and Taiwan to name a few.


That said…..THIS IS A MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE OUTSOURCING OVERSEAS………Yes in the short term you will make more money, and yes you will be able to stay one step ahead of your neighbor Mr. Jones, but long term your gonna really hurt your own people. Don’t you see that? WAKE UP!!!!!! What happened to the pride in your work?!?!?! Maybe if you had some pride in workmanship you and Mr. Jones could work together.

Ask yourself one question……When you make a crown, are you proud of it, or do you just see a dollar value attached?

Since you mention other countries dental labs where The US outsourced to, i add Mexico, Costa Rica, Porto-Rico, India and Philippine. I only give my thought on this thread: China.
I have my own thinking about China way of doing business(including dental lab) to The West. It is not politically involved even i am a political refugee from VN . I lived 5 years under The commun's oppression in the land has border and has been politically influenced by China. Your guys do not experience how much human life is value under communism? Violated those regulations are nothing Jay! "Zero" to human kind, greedy, short sighted and uneducated sometime turn people into devil. These "Zeros" lead to Tibet up rising, to antifreeze in Chinese toothpaste and recently to lead in dental outsourcing from China. I was upset to read Make up Dental commend at that same late that nigh and wanted to react but hold back after question myself if i do: Is it necessary? I agree with Jay, don't reduce yourself to his level but DLN need strong vocal like Mike, Kelly, Rob on subjects like this too.

One thing i wanted to ask Make-Up Dental, please SEND YOUR SUPERIOR PROSTHESES AND THE PICTURES OF MAKE-UP DENTAL LAB to prove TO BE SUPERIOR in your statement.

I have asked one of Hongkong Lab send us their $20.00 WORLD CLASS PFM but never got response??? Have no camera?

Hi Jay and everyone,
While I did go straight for the throat, I did hold back, there is much more.
In reading the post from China, while well written, it is just as outrages as my post. So the post form China seems to be more professional, between the lines is not so well hidden hatred.
I feel badly for those that are so totally missled by their countries leaders. I don't take this at all lightly, especially in light of the recent things coming straight from China, and imported by our own people. A global economy is fine with me, this not the way to do it.
This is a "make a quick buck hurry up greedy get mine then pull out mentality".

I would suggest that you maybe make a copy of the post from China. This person is one of the type that will step in and flame a site, then never answer the attacks they caused. Posts like it may show up again from this person, or others, again.
These types of posts only bring a site to a lower level. So.... keep a copy of the China post, read it once in a while and remember, there is a lot of this out there. Be on your guard.
If there is no answer soon, I believe it in the best interest of DLN to remove the post and all answers. Calling you out Mr. China, not just me, all of us. Show down at noon as it were, if you can stand the heat.

ClearH20, I wouldn't hold your breath brother for those pictures. Jez, I like your questions on your first post, you make a valid point. However, I'm with Mike on this 100%. You don't see American Domestic labs that have lead contaminated crowns, or the newest contaminatioin BACTERIA, because the water used to fabricate the crown was contaminated. MakeUp Dental, you may make a better crown than some, I highly doubt it, but if it was Made in America, I don't have to worry about it being contaminated. So piss and moan all you want about those mean American's, at least our stuff is clean, and yes that goes for all domestic American Labs. Enough said, I can't stand lazy lab guys that portray themselves as dental whores/businessman and believe what they do is patriotic and a good for the patient.....I call it like I see it and if that includes you.......so be it.
