Default behavior, business, people....

Prices for items are pretty much in order. One guy charges a flat rate for everything included, another charges almost ala carte. Works out close to the same.
Over many years I have noticed some things and tried to figure them out.
Back when I wanted to go into just making ortho appliances and wanted to close my study model portion of the operation. I had 3 people at the time capable of taking it over as their own business. Granted, just plain old model business isn't in some ways that big a deal. However for some folks out there it could be a better working and income situation than they may ever come to.
These 3 with me were that. I offered that part of the business to them, free. Equipment and all. They knew everything about it except for what it brought in money wise. So... I show them. No takers. I was going to just plain close that part, they would be out of work. Didn't matter. They did not in any way want to be responsible for more than showing up, doing 8 hours and going home. Most of the population is that way I've learned.
What else is interesting is these very same people wiil sit and listen to financial radio shows, as an instance. They hear people talk about their money woes and here them say their income is 100,000 a year. They hear them say they have a small business. Given the above about not wanting a small business, out of their mouth comes " I wonder what they do for a business?".
Hello??? You sit and show them a viable business for free one day, the next they don't understand what a guy must do to make a comfortable living??? Makes me nuts.
Over the years I have tried to keep my prices down. I thought when I was young," Maybe it would get passed on to the patient". Me....twit.
Doesn't happen.
Health care costs are high. The amount of money made by us in the health care field is high. People would like to have our wage, but, don't want to do what it takes to get it.
It's like reverse greed, "Take care of me, I can't afford more". Versus, "I worked hard and went to school for years, pay up".
I watched a person work, if you could call it that, waiting for the possibility of a disability claim to come through. When it did, the person "retired" young.
Living on a really small sum, but it was free to them. That is reverse greed, sort of, ain't it?
Seems most of us fall in the middle and try to make it work.
Thank you for the opportunity to rant.
If you have managed to read this far, add to the rant.
Mike.

labdude,

The problem is that currently everything the systems offers is for the person who doesn't want to succeed all they want are hand outs. I knew someone that was going to college only because they did not have to pay...they didn't try either but where still going to the classes all because they would get more money from welfare if they attended school. Another person I knew refused to receive a raise because then they would receive less money from the gov. I have many more instances that I could give you but I do not have the time right now.

I would just like to add that right now you get rewarded for doing less not more and I KNOW it is time for a change.

Brian

Yeah so true.
Like "We're from the government, we're here to help".
It would help to change things if we didn't have to vote against what we don't want the most, rather than voting for what we do want, because either choice is undesirable.
Huge mess.

Labguy,
At the time, they weren't my deadbeats. Just folks from where my mom worked and aquaintences from other places.
I can't imagine what it would be like to have emplyees like that. I would feel really nervous maybe about what they might do on the job!!Yeow!
I did low level head hunting and hired trained tried and true people.
Creepy stuff going on out there.
Where are we headed?

How can anyone with this attitude expect to get ahead?

These are the very reasons I have not expanded my busin
ess. All my life I worked for whoever as if it was my own business. I don't think I could find such a person nowadays. Many people just want the 9-5 w/out any headaches, just the paycheck. My husband deals with them everyday, oh the stories he could tell.

Trisha,

To quote you,

"Many people just want the 9-5 w/out any headaches, just the paycheck."

The other thing you forgot to say was that they also want a good amount of money for poor to mediocre work. As I have heard several times in the past, "It is hard to find good help these days!"
